Mirapoint Updates RazorGate E-Mail Security Appliance

Major release includes early virus protection and standalone MailHurdle product.

Mirapoint today announced new enhancements to its RazorGate e-mail security appliances. There are two new additions to the product's layered approach to e-mail control, Junk Mail Manager and Rapid Anti-Virus which can be added to all existing appliances and will be included in new appliances. Also newly available is a new MailHurdle-only security appliance designed to enhance existing e-mail security environments.

Junk Mail Manager works with any existing e-mail server, including Microsoft Exchange, to provide uniquely flexible end-user controls for managing false-positives by keeping spam out of users' inboxes and quarantining unwanted traffic at the network edge. The interface is designed to work with any existing e-mail server and any traditional desktop clients by delivering a message that is a summary digests of quarantined messages directly to the inbox.

Users can view the captured messages, as well as self-manage what ultimately gets delivered to their inbox. A web-based interface is also provided with Junk Mail Manager, so customers can securely log into their quarantine from any Internet browser and manage their e-mail.

Rapid Anti-Virus technology adds an additional layer of real-time protection to Mirapoint's existing signature-based approach to virus filtering. By using e-mail traffic pattern information collected on a global basis from network probes to address emerging threats, Rapid Anti-Virus helps customers identify viruses quickly at the first sign of an outbreak.

Rapid Anti-Virus is based on the Zero Hour Virus Protection technology licensed from Commtouch. "We've expanded our relationship with Commtouch specifically to add this feature and provide the best virus protection on the market," said Mirapoint director of product and corporate marketing Jeff Brainard.

Customers with an existing security investment may want to add Mirapoint's MailHurdle technology. The company's new MailHurdle-only appliance will work with any existing security infrastructure and block messages using its patented IP-based technology.
