Habeas SafeList Adopted For Hotmail And MSN Mail

Microsoft will support the sender accreditation system as part of its layered security technology regimen.

Habeas announced that Microsoft has selected the Habeas SafeList for use with its MSN Mail and MSN Hotmail e-mail platforms. Implementation is planned for this fall.

The Habeas SafeList will be used to examine inbound e-mail streams and identify Habeas Certified e-mail. Generally, certification ensures that the message is a secure and legitimate e-mail that can be safely delivered to subscribers. Habeas Certified e-mail is e-mail that has been sent by accredited senders who have met Habeas' certification standards.

Microsoft will support Habeas Certified e-mail in MSN Hotmail as part of its layered technology regimen for protecting customer inboxes from spam, phishing and other e-mail-based intrusions. Use of the of the SafeList allows the e-mail system to concentrate anti-spam technology on non-certified e-mail, which is more likely to be spam or to pose a security threat to its subscribers.

"Microsoft is a leading supporter of emerging technologies that make the web a safer and more secure place for consumers," said Kevin Doerr, MSN Group business manager, "and we see accreditation and certification services such as Habeas SafeList playing an important role in the fight against spam and in maintaining the reliability of e-mail."
