Kerio Launches Version 6.1 Of MailServer

Product designed for SMB market includes contact management, calendaring, and collaborative tools.

Kerio Technologies today announced version 6.1 of Kerio MailServer. The new version adds Sender Policy Framework (SPF) sender authentication, Spam Repellent anti-spam tools, and dual anti-virus scanning to its existing array of virus and spam-fighting tools.

Kerio MailServer is targeted primarily at small and medium-sized businesses, and includes a simplified approach to e-mail, contact and group calendar management that provides collaboration for all types of organizations. In the new Kerio MailServer 6.1 the underlying e-mail security technology has been improved by the addition of SPF to augment Microsoft Caller ID, which has been in previous versions of the product.

The new Spam Repellent feature fights spam and viruses by inserting a delay in the SMTP handshake, which is designed to cause a virus or spam-sending zombie to give up the connection attempt. “Our tests showed that Spam Repellent effectively cuts 60 to 70% of spam and viruses before they reach the e-mail server,” said Dusan Vitek, VP Marketing at Kerio Technologies Inc. “Best of all, there are no false positives because this technique does not affect legitimate email traffic.”

Kerio has also added dual anti-virus scanning so that mail administrators can use both the built-in McAfee Anti-virus and a third party anti-virus through a provided plug-in. Plug-ins are available for Symantec, Sophos, Grisoft AVG, Eset NOD 32, Computer Associates and for the newly added VisNetic Antivirus.
