The system provides a closed-end user community, allowing only the invited to participate in its SSL-secured messaging environment. Just to be sure ,the system also protects users with anti-virus, anti-spim, and worm-killing technologies.
Individual messaging participants can share information and documents, but so can workgroups that have been defined and permitted as participants in the Ubergroup.com environment. The system provides presence information to all users about all users in a defined group.
Ubergroup.com services also include text-based conference rooms for collective or "breakout" discussions, file transfer with transfer logs for document version control, and team blogs and individual IMs that are archived and searchable.
"We use it mostly for instant messaging," said Mike Bulat of DirectoryM, "because it's secure and has a great interface." Bulat's groups also use the blog feature, which allows the company's U.K.-based employees to post messages and time-shift them into the company's Los Angeles business day.
Team members can stay synched up wherever they go because data is centralized on Ubergroups.com's secure servers.
Ubergroups.com works through corporate firewalls which allows teams from multiple organizations, such as supply chain participants, can be assembled and work together. Ubergroups.com is platform-independent, running on Windows, Macintosh, and Linux systems.
Ubergroups.com is priced at $39 a month for the first 10 users, and $5 a month for each additional user. There are volume discounts above 100 users, and an annual subscription allows customers to invite an unlimited number of group members external to their organization.
