Adomo Introduces Exchange-Based Voice Mail

By adding this appliance to a Microsoft Exchange system, users can have access to their voice mail either through Outlook or in the traditional way.

Adomo today announced the launch of Adomo Voice Messaging for Exchange at Demo 2005. This voice messaging system delivers telephone-generated voice mail to e-mail users via an Exchange server. The product is targeted at enterprise Exchange customers and is touted of the first such product for that market.

"People check their voice mail less reliably than they check their e-mail," said Adomo CEO Jeff Snider, "and we see a huge potential market in replacing aging legacy voice mail systems in the enterprise markekt with an e-mail based solution."

Adomo claims that by integrating voice mail into the e-mail architecture IT professionals can reduce overhead and human resource costs by as much as 80%. The system can work within any PBX or IP-based PBX environment. "It just fits right in," adds Snider.

While not laying claim to being part of any unified communications solution, Adomo Voice Messaging for exchange does enable users to access messages via e-mail, where voice mail is defined as a special message type, or be traditional telephonic means. The system also makes use of presence information in environments where LCS 2005 is installed, and even has electronic assistant capabilities reminiscent of the old Wildfire system.

Adomo has already installed its system in major corporations, including Boeing, Dell, EDS, and Fidelity Investments. "Because it's part of the e-mail infrastructure, it scales right along with that structure."

Adomo Voice Messaging for Exchange is packaged as an appliance. It's an Intel-powered box running an open source operating system (can you say "Linux?"). Servers can be ganged together for large networks, and installed remotely to service outside facilities. "Packaging this as a hardware solution enables voice mail to work even if Exchange is down," says Snider.
